This former Howard Johnson Hotel, located on Yonge Street in Aurora, is being re-developed into a new retirement residence for seniors and a dementia care centre. The new property owners of the land where the old Howard Johnson hotel remains on 15520 Yonge St. in Aurora will be undergoing a redevelopment into a new retirement residence.
Just the facts:
— According to David Waters, the director of planning and development services for the town of Aurora, the building will not be demolished.

— The proposal is to use the existing structure, gut the inside, and create a retirement living residence that will provide independent and assisted living for seniors. Plans are also to create a dementia care space.
— The development will be done by Traditions Seniors Housing Ltd., and they are in the early process. They are currently working on a solution for flood protection for the building as it is in a flood zone.
— Waters said development includes a “facelift” for the building.
— Construction is expected to start in spring of 2021 which will begin with the interior renovations.

— At this time, there is no impact to the community since everything can be done on-site and within the existing structure and on the existing property.
