Technical Lead, Global Network, Routing and Operations

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of experience with network routing protocols, design and troubleshooting, with network equipment providers.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages such as C++, Go, or Python.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in network infrastructure design and management.
  • Experience designing and using automation workflows to boost operational productivity.
  • Experience in network management best practices and operational standards.
  • Knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and overlay technologies.
  • Understanding of routing/optical hardware and current industry trends.
  • Excellent technical leadership that mentors and elevates the entire team's capabilities.

As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. In this role, as a Technical Lead for our global network infrastructure operations practice you will possess the capacity to think about and lead solution planning for some of the largest networking tests for IP networks today. You will need excellent written and verbal communication skills to enable you to lead a large, matrixed organization of technical people toward strategies that improve network reliability and drive scale as our network grows. You'll be at the center of the network ecosystem, where hardware, software, SDN overlays, and workflow automation converge to create the Google Global Network.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $227,000-$320,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, analysis, and strategic development of our global network infrastructure.
  • Achieve and exceed Service Level Objective (SLO) goals for our fiber, optical, and routing platforms.
  • Serve as a technical leader and mentor to a team of Network Engineers, Software Engineers, Technical Program Managers, and Managers.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the network to enhance availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Identify and mitigate network risks through innovative design, in-depth analysis, and the implementation of enhanced processes and automation.
