About the job
As the Failure Analysis Engineer you are a key player in the complete product life cycle. You will provide insight to the design team for design risks by performing tear-downs of prototype devices. You will perform failure analysis of both development units and field returns by working with manufacturing partners and cross-functional engineering teams to identify root cause and implement corrective actions. You will also work with the product safety team to identify and resolve any product safety claims.
In this role, you will evaluate electrical, thermal and mechanical characteristics of integrated circuits, components, sub-components and systems to determine the root cause of failure. You will set up processes to determine why failures are happening and recommend corrective action to prevent reoccurrence of problems. You will need to recognize customer induced damage and be comfortable analyzing all potential failure modes, including issues related to packaging/logistics, software/firmware, and mechanical or electrical issues. You will develop procedures and automation to support high volume field failure analysis.
Responsibilities
- Minimize failures experienced by customers.
- Reproduce and analyze field failures to understand failure mechanism and root cause.
- Ensure materials and failure analysis capabilities required to support whole device screening (Level 1) and module level (Level 2) failure analysis are in place.
- Work with the cross-functional team to take field failures from root cause identification through to corrective action.
- Understand factory OQC process and work on improving any gaps, based on field returns, that could result in customer failures.
