Software Engineer, P2020 Rollouts Analytics, Insights and Metrics

  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.

  • Experience with data science, data modeling, large-scale data processing, reliability metrics.

P2020 Rollouts systems carries out progressive, supervised and safe production changes based on a model of production resources, used by the vast majority of all production services at Google to get new binaries, configs, and resource changes into production, whether on a schedule or in an emergency. We aim to reduce human effort, speed up processes, and increase safety. Our team’s primary goals are to optimize reliability and maximize productivity related to change management in production.

You’ll directly impact a very large and critical service that the entire company depends on to keep running smoothly, with customers and partners in every product area. You’ll have a clear mission to drive product health improvements through the product and business insights that flow from delivering robust and meaningful metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimize the core metrics and SLO platform, focusing on scalability and data fidelity for Rollouts' Critical User Journeys.
  • Apply advanced data science and analytics techniques (e.g., forecasting, anomaly detection) to transform raw data into high-value, actionable insights for product teams.
  • Develop and extend robust data models of critical Rollouts usage patterns to enhance predictability and enable proactive capacity and reliability planning.
  • Define and implement definitive product metrics and SLOs that measure and guarantee Rollouts' quality of service, including developing automated insights and alerting.
  • Collaborate effectively across the Rollouts organization to drive consensus and adoption of data-driven improvements.
