Senior Software Engineer, Front End, Labs, Google Flow

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, specifically in TypeScript or JavaScript.
  • 3 years of experience with front-end and user interface development using modern web frameworks such as Angular or React.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching consumer-facing software products.
  • 1 year of experience with software design and architecture, including component design and state management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures, algorithms, and front-end performance optimization.
  • 1 year of experience in a technical leadership role, leading technical decisions or mentoring junior engineers.
  • Experience with Modern Angular (Signals), Kotlin, or building applications on large-scale internal infrastructure.
  • Experience developing accessible technologies and translating complex Generative AI models into intuitive user interfaces.

Google Labs Generative Media team is a high-velocity group within Google dedicated to making creativity radically more accessible, useful, and playful. This team operates with a startup mentality, managing the company’s earliest and most exciting AI technologies, including breakout hits like MusicLM, ImageFx, Veo, and our latest launch, Google Flow.

As a Senior Front-End Engineer, you will play a critical role in the evolution of Google Flow, a professional-grade tool that empowers creators to generate high-quality video content using GenAI.

Labs is a group focused on incubating early-stage efforts in support of Google’s mission to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our team exists to help discover and create new ways to advance our core products through exploration and the application of new technologies. We work to build new solutions that have the potential to transform how users interact with Google. Our goal is to drive innovation by developing new Google products and capabilities that deliver significant impact over longer timeframes.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Write and test high-performance front-end code using TypeScript and Angular to build novel generative AI features for Google Flow.
  • Lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to drive the architectural migration from a React prototype to a scalable Modern Angular codebase.
  • Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., establishing strict typing standards, component reusability, and performance efficiency).
  • Contribute to technical documentation and educational content to support the team's transition to a new framework and onboard new engineers.
  • Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve UI/UX bugs to ensure a stable experience for weekly releases to professional users.
