Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
- Experience with full stack Java or Kotlin development.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical fields.
- 2 years of experience with data structures or algorithms.
- Experience in Android app or OS development.
- Knowledge of location and activity recognition technologies.
About the job
The Android Location team works with massive datasets to improve Location for billions of users' mobile devices. We work with on-device algorithms, server side Machine Learning (ML) training, GPS, WiFi, accelerometer, gyro, and other on-device signals. Use cases include powering apps like Google Maps, Location Sharing, Rideshare, Location based games, and helping users in emergency situations (e.g., when dialing 911, earthquake detection and alerts, and more.)Responsibilities
- Build user-facing features which utilize location awareness and AI to deliver magical moments for users.
- Develop new algorithms, and update existing software, with good integration testing and documentation, in alignment with organizational goals, in support of end user and internal team needs.
- Improve software systems in alignment with evolving best practices across the Android Location and adjacent organizations.
- Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Triage product or system issues and debug/track/resolve by analyzing the sources of issues and the impact on hardware, network, or service operations and quality.
