Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in telecommunications at carrier scale working with optical network infrastructure, transmission systems, layer2/3 routers, and data services.
  • 8 years of experience managing and building teams.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience in telecommunications, OSP, ISP, AC/DC power systems, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.
  • 8 years of experience directing field operation technicians, engineers, contractors, or vendors in a telecommunications working environment.
  • Strong knowledge in data networking architectures and physical network components.
  • Understanding of cloud computing, Linux server environments, network design and deployment, and managing large-scale infrastructure.
  • Ability to thrive in an environment of ambiguity and create order out of it.
  • Comfort with building multiple strategic senior stakeholder relationships.

As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. This team is responsible for the system level design and deployment of the global fiber optic network that connects Google's data centers to the world. This network allows Google to function as a global computer, ensuring continuous flow of data to and from all corners of the planet.

Our mission is to deliver WAN capacity and activate flows to enable Alphabet's dynamic growth by improving the quality of life by connecting humanity.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $171,000-$254,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of individuals; set and communicate individual and team priorities that support organizational goals. Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development, and provide feedback and coaching.
  • Direct and prioritize resources while maintaining quality and adherence to network standards.
  • Collaborate as a subject matter expert to ensure adoption of network infrastructure standards.
  • Deliver network capacity for Google via generation of bill of materials, deployment packages, device management, vendor management, and standard workflow based activation.
  • Triage network issues, identify root causes, generate maintenance operation procedures, and orchestrate network repair and completion of on-site work in support of the repair activity.
