Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2 years of experience with software development in C++ programming languages.
  • 1 year of experience with Machine Learning.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative field like engineering, computer science, mathematics, statistics or economics or in business science.
  • Experience developing and scaling Search, Infrastructure, or Datamart products/technologies.
  • Experience in architecting and developing software or infrastructure for scalable, high performance, distributed systems.

About the job

The Astro Serving team builds and optimizes the foundation for Google’s information retrieval. Our systems power Google Search and more than 100 critical products (e.g., YouTube Search, Shopping, Lens, etc.), handling millions of queries per second (QPS) over trillions of documents on a global fleet of servers. We provide the efficient, vector-based embedding and token-based retrieval and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) grounding solutions used by Search and Cloud.

We own initiatives that are absolutely critical to Google's success, forming the high-scale serving foundation for products across the entire company. In this role, you will be a technically curious software engineer to join us in handling a set of exciting, collaborative projects with Google DeepMind. You will build foundational infrastructure to enable Google's most ambitious AI initiatives.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $141,000-$202,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Prototype highly scalable, low latency, cost efficient infrastructure.
  • Translate research ideas in the area of AI into implementations.
  • Active participation in ideation phase with research and infrastructure engineers.
  • Develop the infrastructure for next-gen AI products, building necessary components to deliver solutions.
  • Collaborate across organizations with Google DeepMind, Astro and with other partner teams.
