Product Manager II, Geo UGC, Contributor Motivation

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in product management or a related technical role.
  • 2 years of experience in developing or launching products or technologies within databases, analytics, big data, or a related field.
  • Experience in building consumer facing products.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience in consumer product management, and with developing and launching products.
  • Experience with executive presentations.
  • Experience with metrics and experiment analysis (e.g., A/B testing) and building on available insights.
  • Experience in working across functions (e.g., engineering, product, user experience (UX), analytics/data science, policy, legal) and teams.
  • Experience with Google Maps and improving user experience through technologies.
  • Knowledge of ArtificiaI Intelligence/Machine Learning (ML) concepts and applications like Large Language Models (LLMs).

About the job

User-Generated Content (UGC) such as Reviews and Suggested Map Edits represent a key differentiator for Google Maps and Search. UGC is important for helping people decide where to go, and plays an important role in keeping the Map fresh.

Contributor Motivation team's mission is to architect the future of contributor engagement through a unified motivation strategy. The team focuses on solving tests at the intersection of user behavior and system design to drive retention. The team serve as a key connective tissue across UGC product areas, building consensus and influencing the Google Maps ecosystem to ensure loop is closed with contributors and give them a quality experience.
The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver a motivation roadmap, integrating impact, and expertise into a self-reinforcing system that tells a story of success.
  • Showcase the tangible value of user contributions by surfacing community metrics and leveraging Generative AI to highlight people strengths and passions.
  • Partner with Engineering, Design, Marketing, and Community teams to gather resources and ensure a unified, user-centric approach to contributor engagement.
  • Lead the exploration and implementation of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance motivation, integrate these systems across emerging AI-powered surfaces to stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Guide project integrations that help contributors recognize their growth and authority, promoting loyalty and quality participation.
