Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or external communications within the technology industry.
  • Experience with executive management and stakeholder management.
  • Experience with building new external communications processes, procedures, and methods with foresight to anticipate and address future issues.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in influencing across teams with sometimes performing objectives, effectively aligning resources and direction.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders, media representatives, and Key Opinion Formers.
  • Experience working with leaders and developing their external presence across traditional and new media channels.
  • Experience in managing agencies for programs, including defining objectives, identifying key tasks, and providing content.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work aligned to team or company goals in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Ability to foster a welcoming and respectful environment, seeking different perspectives, and emphasizing teammates' contributions.

About the job

As a member of the Google Cloud Communications team, you will collaborate with other cross-functional teams to communicate with journalists and thought leaders, develop specific communications materials and devise thought leadership campaigns. You'll understand the power of Google’s Cloud products and tell the story of how we help our customers innovate. You'll engage in face-to-face meetings with internal executives and external opinion formers, and develop print and web-based materials supporting these campaigns.

As a Communications Manager in External Communications, you will drive impactful public relations and communications for Google Workspace and the Applied AI organization that focuses on delivering agentic capabilities to enterprise customers. You will be at the forefront of driving measurable outcomes for our communications programs and projects, ensuring the development of long-term strategic plans that align with overarching business goals.

You will navigate the intersection of consumer and enterprise communications, connect the dots across complex initiatives, and build strong relationships. You will have knowledge of executive management, stakeholder management, and strong business acumen. You will be crucial as you coach executives, represent the external perspective within Google, and safeguard our reputation.You will be a key player in driving go-to-market strategies, crafting compelling narratives, and executing creative campaigns that resonate with our audiences.

To succeed here, you'll combine creativity with organizational skills to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines simultaneously, as well as enjoy pitching to journalists, bloggers and commentators, or producing internal communications and events for our employees. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $134,000-$196,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute comprehensive communications plans for Google Workspace and Applied AI, aligning with product launches, updates, and strategic initiatives.
  • Own the development of end-to-end external communications, crafting compelling messages, pitches, and story angles for a set of products including Docs, Drive, Slides and Voice and related Workspace communication features. Oversee communications for Workspace go-to-market initiatives and cross-Workspace AI projects.
  • Generate innovative and engaging campaign ideas to drive product adoption and brand awareness, with a strong focus on consumer engagement.
  • Lead PR efforts aiming both consumer and enterprise audiences, crafting compelling stories and securing high-impact media coverage.
  • Collaborate with a number of Workspace partners, product teams, marketing, Government Affairs and Public Policy, and legal to ensure integrated, consistent messaging and impactful communications strategy.
