Senior Privacy Engineer, Android Platform

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience working in a privacy related field (e.g., security engineering, data engineering, data scientist, compliance engineering, etc.).
  • 1 year of experience in designing solutions for technological problems that maintain the privacy posture of the organization, leading teams across multiple workstreams.
  • 1 year of experience in leading the application of privacy technologies (e.g., differential privacy, automated access management solutions, etc.) to solve technical and data management problems, customizing existing solutions and frameworks to meet user needs.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with device or hardware privacy.
  • Experience with mobile and Android platform, and app development.
  • Experience with the software development lifecycle, including code review in one or more general purpose languages.
  • Knowledge of health related privacy designs in Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and wearables.

About the job

The Platforms Privacy team is focused on the Android Platform and ecosystem including first-party devices, services, apps and infrastructure as well as associated third-party ecosystems. You will provide early privacy consultation during product development and launch-related privacy reviews for products, services and features.

As a Senior Privacy Engineer, you will ensure that products respect and earn user trust and that launches collect, store, and use data in accordance with Google privacy principles.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Play a role in Google’s product design process, and launch cycle. Guide Engineering teams during product development to ensure that their data, collection and usage practices are transparent, protect user privacy, and mitigate risk.
  • Lead and manage proactive development of new privacy features and tools throughout the product design and release process. 
  • Conduct technical and policy reviews to identify and escalate potential privacy concerns.
  • Respond to privacy incidents, if they occur, including collecting information on scope and root cause as well as managing remediation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure the privacy excellence of product launches, including with legal and Public Policy teams.
