About the job
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions.
The Feed Recommendation team connects users with the world's most relevant and engaging content. We own the end-to-end experience for Google's feed products, from content understanding to developing retrieval, ranking, and personalization models.
In this role, your mission is to identify technical issues end to end and drive end to end solutions across our feed retrieval and ranking work streams. You will develop and deploy LLMs and multi-modal systems to recommend content at focusing on extracting signals and ensuring Machine Learning (ML) system scalability. You will need to have experience with similar large-scale recommendation platforms (e.g., YouTube, TikTok).
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership on projects.
- Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables and advance key content domains, such as; extracting structured information (e.g., suitable for vegetarians or meat lovers) from unstructured text and using signals from text, images, and video for multi-modal understanding (e.g., extract useful signals from mixed-format story clusters).
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions and collaborate with partner teams and cross function partners to integrate the content signals into production retrieval, ranking, and personalization systems.
- Develop and deploy models, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and multi-modal systems, to analyze, classify, and enrich content and conduct applied research on novel modeling techniques to solve concrete issues in content understanding, such as identifying nuanced topics, assessing content quality, and understanding User Generated Content (UGC).
