About the job

Google Cloud's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google Cloud's needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. You will anticipate our customer needs and be empowered to act like an owner, take action and innovate. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

BigQuery is an exabyte scale cloud data warehouse and one of the fastest growing products in GCP! The biggest blocker for further adoption and growth is the migration of customers' SQL scripts, workloads and data. This involves an ambitious roadmap to build new services and infrastructure that power Assessment (an assessment of the source data warehouse to evaluate the complexity of migration to BigQuery), SQL Translations (to translate SQL queries from the source data warehouse dialect to BigQuery SQL), Data Migration (snapshot and incremental copy of data from the source data warehouse to BigQuery), and Data Validation (to validate that the migrated SQL queries return the same results in BigQuery as in the source data warehouse). Google Cloud accelerates every organization’s ability to digitally transform its business and industry. We deliver enterprise-grade solutions that leverage Google’s cutting-edge technology, and tools that help developers build more sustainably. Customers in more than 200 countries and territories turn to Google Cloud as their trusted partner to enable growth and solve their most critical business problems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain BQMS Assessment Service, primarily using Java, SQL, and Boq, to automate the assessment process and facilitate data migration. This includes learning and researching competitive platforms like cloud Computing Platform and Snowflake.
  • Analyze data warehouse systems, work with Program Managers and domain experts on designing new insights and features.
  • Collaborate with other migration teams and cross-functional partners to understand their needs, gather system details, and contribute to developing comprehensive migration tooling.
  • Grow your expertise in different data warehousing areas, taking ownership of related features within the service you develop.
  • Have a significant technical impact on the final product, influencing how major companies and many smaller businesses, along with their engineers, successfully move their data to BigQuery.
