About the job
Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. Our products need to handle information at massive scale, and extend well beyond web search. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.
As part of the Chrome Trust & Safety organization, the Chrome Transactions team has invested in supporting online shopping journeys. Users love Autofill when presented with the choice between typing an address and autofilling it, two-thirds of Android users chose the latter. By autofilling an address, users save over half of their time interacting with the form and they even submit more forms.
Autofill is at the heart of multiple disciplines, demanding constant innovation in UX, UXR, and developer relations. It involves detailed heuristics, crowdsourcing, and integrating machine learning to fine tune the experience.
Chrome is dedicated to building a better, more open web. We’re focused on making a better browser (on both desktop and mobile) to help users take advantage of all the web has to offer in a safe and secure way.Chrome is available across all major platforms — iOS, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS. We also built Chrome as an open source project so the entire web ecosystem could benefit from the latest innovations in speed, simplicity and security.
Responsibilities
- Write product or system development code. Participate in, or lead design reviews with peers and stakeholders to decide among available technologies.
- Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).
- Partner closely with engineering teams and cross-functional peers (PM, UX, UXR) to evolve and deliver how our users take action on the web. Design solutions for ambiguous problems to improve the client and server backends.
- Design and implement new Autofill features for Chrome on various operating systems, primarily working with C++ code. Enhance form detection and server-side classification algorithms to improve Chrome's ability to accurately detect web form fields and process form data reliably (Google3/C++/Scaffolding/Flume/Python/Beam).
- Collaborate on OS-level integrations and UI enhancements for Chrome Autofill.
