About the job

A problem isn’t truly solved until it’s solved for all. That’s why Googlers build products that help create opportunities for everyone, whether down the street or across the globe. As a Program Manager at Google, you’ll lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish — working with stakeholders to plan requirements, manage project schedules, identify risks, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. Your projects will often span offices, time zones, and hemispheres. It's your job to coordinate the players and keep them up to date on progress and deadlines.

As a Cost Program Manager within the Product Cost and Intelligence team, you will serve as the "Intelligent Core" of the Devices and Services group. You will lead the definition and deployment of a robust "should cost" framework, partnering closely with Global Supply Managers, Engineers, and Product Leads to define project scope, deliverable timelines, and process governance.

In this Program Management role, you will define and execute our cost strategy, establishing a credible, defensible cost floor. You will have a deep engineering mindset who refuses to accept box pricing and possesses the technical curiosity to ask the hard "why" questions. You will scope ambiguous challenges, align executive stakeholders, and drive the cost strategy.

The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $147,000-$216,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits. Learn more about benefits at Google.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional efforts to develop and implement a standard should-costing process. Outline project scope, goals, deliverables, and tracking metrics to monitor progress towards standardization across supply chain groups, product lines.
  • Own detailed cost modeling and "should-cost" estimates for hardware commodities. Delve into sourcing-defined cost models, highlight opportunities to increase model excellence, and raise "calls to action" to improve standardization across the organization.
  • Conduct simulations to pressure test cost estimates provided by sourcing managers, challenging assumptions and identifying potential areas for cost reduction.
  • Evaluate the organization's data ecosystem to identify key input gaps and take initiative to source and integrate new data sets to support cost modeling capabilities utilizing industry knowledge, analytics, and competitive market data.
  • Analyze how engineering changes, new technology introductions, materials, and processes impact the overall cost of the hardware portfolio commodities.
