Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of experience in a policy, legal, Trust and Safety, or technology environment.
- 5 years of experience in drafting or enforcing policy for an online platform or engagement with public policy issues in technology, government, law or online.
- Experience engaging in and discussing sensitive or controversial areas.
Preferred qualifications:
- JD, MBA, or Master’s degree.
- Experience with areas related to assessing the risk landscape and regulatory requirements unique to minors as viewers and child safety, or youth physical or psychological safety.
- Experience in childhood development, behavior or psychology of minors ages 17 and under.
- Experience working with global teams and communicating with stakeholders cross-functionally.
- Excellent written, presentation, and verbal communication skills.

As a Policy Development Lead, you will seamlessly switch between developing global policies for YouTube content and driving cross-functional projects impacting the global ecosystem. You will bring order and clarity to unstructured or ambiguous problems. The Policy team covers a wide variety of topics, and you will contribute across multiple areas. This role will sometimes involve reviewing graphic, controversial, or offensive video content in line with YouTube’s Community Guidelines. You will work with product teams and Enforcement and Operations to mitigate safety risks to minors as new YouTube products and features are developed, to integrate responsibility principles, provide scalable enforcement and ensure coverage from Trust and Safety content policy.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $129,000-$189,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and update our global policies focused on policy requirements for age appropriateness and child safety. Evaluate the risk profile of new products and features.
- Understand and clearly communicate the risk landscape and regulatory requirements unique to minors as viewers and child safety. Influence cross-functional stakeholders and company executives regarding proposed content policy efforts.
- Negotiate and find optimal policy solutions balancing safety, product reach, and growth objectives. Understand and clearly communicate the policy challenges and needs presented by new features and emerging global online content risks.
- Propose new strategies and policies to improve Trust and Safety's product market fit to the evolving needs as well as our ability to scale our enforcement.
- Work closely with global teams to ensure effective operationalization of global policies.
