Staff Software Engineer, BigQuery Security

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • Experience managing across multiple partner teams.
  • Experience in one or more coding languages (e.g., Java, Python, Go, C++).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Threat Modeling), data security concepts and best practices, such as authentication, authorization, encryption, and vulnerability management.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.
  • Experience with Database Fine-Grained Access Controls such as Row Level and Column level security.
  • Experience with Gemini/AI/ML security and C++ security best practices.
  • Experience with Rust.
  • Excellent problem-solving, investigative, and communication skills.

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our BigQuery Security team, dedicated to safeguarding the world's data within Google's leading server-less data warehouse.

In this role, you will leverage your expertise in data security and software development to design, implement, and maintain security solutions for BigQuery. You will work directly to impact the privacy and protection of sensitive data for millions of users and organizations worldwide.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and enhance the security of existing BigQuery components, addressing potential vulnerabilities and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Work closely with product managers, engineers, and security experts to understand requirements, prioritize tasks, and deliver comprehensive security solutions.
  • Research and stay up-to-date with the latest trends and threats in data security, applying your knowledge to strengthen BigQuery's security posture.
  • Participate in security incident response, analyzing and mitigating threats to minimize the impact on BigQuery users.
