Software Engineer, Evaluations and Data for Intelligence Team

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
  • 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience using Python libraries and frameworks, especially with ML/AI/Data focus.
  • Experience with Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning or Generative AI.
  • Experience in data/statistics, leading AI-driven insights and metrics.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 5 years of experience with data structures/algorithms in a data ML-focused role.
  • Experience with scaled batch processing.
  • Experience with evals for Generative AI systems.

Evaluations and Data are the foundations of all AI development. Across Home product lines, there have been an increase in investment of AI features and with it comes added demands for evals and data. EDIT - Scaling team provides the essential scaling solutions that make these foundational processes feasible from a time and resourcing standpoint. You and the team will leverage the state-of-the-art LLM-based modeling approaches to massively accelerate and scale solutions beyond traditionally manual human judgment/labeling tasks. Your solutions will empower feature developers and product managers to efficiently measure product behaviors and improve quality targets for the next generation of Home Intelligence features.

The Google Home team focuses on hardware, software and services offerings for the home, ranging from thermostats to smart displays. The Home team
researches, designs, and develops new technologies and hardware to make
users’ homes more helpful. Our mission is the helpful home: to create a
home that cares for the people inside it and the world around it.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the work on Generative AI-driven actionable insights, metrics, dashboards, surfacing quality improvement signals.
  • Contribute to development of LLM-based automation of human labeling and decision-making tasks via Auto-raters.
  • Partner with Home platform teams developing various AI-driven smart home experiences to provide tailored eval solutions.
  • Work on extending cutting-edge AI eval frameworks and tooling to help deliver state-of-the-art smart home experiences.
