Hardware Technical Program Manager, New Technology Investigations

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in program management.
- 5 years of experience leading new product introduction (NPI) and manufacturing initiatives for hardware products, including experience in optics and displays.
- 5 years of experience evaluating and productizing new technologies in a consumer hardware product space.
- 5 years of experience in the evaluation of optics, light source, and display technologies.
Preferred qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in the optics consumer electronics or optics industry and experience scaling technologies.
- 5 years of experience in product or process definition, having taken a module or system from concept stage into mass production.
- Experience building relationships with engineering, product management, and other cross-functional partners and drive discussions around optimization of technical specifications, and features vs. value trade-offs.
- Excellent data-driven problem solving skills to address multi-dimensional problems with high levels of uncertainty across multiple functional teams.
- Ability to travel internationally up to 20% of the time as needed.

You're equally comfortable explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.
At Google Android extended reality (XR), the new technology investigations (NTI) team focuses on creating and developing optical architectures. We work with partners to push the limits of fabrication technology.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $183,000-$271,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Lead the initial exploration of new optical (and other) technologies, socialize promising technologies cross-functionally, towards buy-in for a future product or use case.
- Deliver and maintain a portfolio of optical (and other) architecture options, interface with leadership to report on progress and communicate resource asks.
- Drive the boundaries of existing technologies and processes with our supply chain partners.
- Benchmark the industry to monitor technology trends and ensure best practices are incorporated into the NTI/NPI architecture.
- Engage and support new technology exploration, collaborate with cross-functional partners on creating a long term technology roadmaps mapping closely with product roadmaps, and advise/recommend to the executive team a clear partner/supplier strategy.
