Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics or a related field (Statistics, Data Science, Business, Finance, or Public Policy), or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience in econometric modeling and statistical analyses, using standard statistical software such as Stata and R.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Economics or a related field (Statistics, Data Science, Business, Finance, or Public Policy).
  • 1 year of experience in regulatory or litigation proceedings at an economic consulting firm, competition agency, or technology company.
  • 1 year of experience in antitrust.

Google's leadership team hand-picks thorny business challenges, and members of BizOps work in small teams to find solutions. As part of this team you fully immerse yourself in data collection, draw insight from analysis, and then zoom out to develop compelling, synthesized recommendations. Taking strategy one step further, you also persuasively communicate your recommendations to senior-level executives, roll-up your sleeves to help drive implementation and check back-in to see the impact of your recommendations.

The Competition Economics subgroup of the Economics Team conducts and coordinates data-driven economic analyses in legal and regulatory proceedings involving AI, Search, Android, Play, Cloud, Ads, and other marquee Google products and services. We provide expert advice to stakeholders on competition policy matters and contribute to Google's engagement with regulatory bodies.

As an Associate Competition Economist at Google, you will play a critical role in ensuring that our products and services operate within an engaged and innovative marketplace.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $118,000-$170,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

  • Create dashboards and tools to automate processes, generate reports, and guide product decisions. 
  • Curate and validate data to ensure quality standards are met. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand the domain, business goals, and data infrastructure context.
  • Develop metrics to track and evaluate solution deployment across teams.
