About the job

Our computational challenges are so big, complex and unique we can't just purchase off-the-shelf hardware, we've got to make it ourselves. Your team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Hardware Engineer, you design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You develop from the lowest levels of circuit design to large system design and see those systems all the way through to high volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our data centers affecting millions of Google users.

The System Level Test (SLT) team's mission is fundamentally about ensuring the highest quality and reliability of SoCs by testing them in an environment that closely mimics their final real-world application. We are the ultimate quality gate and the last line of defense, catching complex, high-impact functional defects that escape all other manufacturing tests. SLT doesn’t just test components, instead we design custom hardware, write low level driver/firmware, develop production software architecture, and data analytic toolings, etc. We operate at the intersection of hardware, software, and data science.

In this role, you will work in the most complex failure modes using technologies to solve the problem. You will accelerate the debug cycle and enable rapid yield ramp-up for new products. With your technical insights, you will translate immediately into measurable improvements in manufacturing efficiency and product profitability.

Google's mission is to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful. Our team combines the best of Google AI, Software, and Hardware to create radically helpful experiences. We research, design, and develop new technologies and hardware to make computing faster, seamless, and more powerful. We aim to make people's lives better through technology.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in silicon bring-up, hardware validation, and embedded software development.
  • Develop, debug, and maintain firmware and board level control software.
  • Collaborate with silicon design and validation engineers to automate test procedures and analyze behavior, as well as debug hardware and firmware issues.
  • Support lab based experiments, board bring-up, and system verification.
  • Automate test cases and data collection using Python.
