Strategic Partnerships Development Manager, YouTube

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 4 years of experience in business development, partnerships, or music publishing rights management for digital music, broadcast, or internet businesses.
  • 4 years of experience driving operational workflows in digital music or media societies and publisher/label relationships.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects and partnerships with attention to detail.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience handling high stress situations and managing multiple projects, remaining focused on accomplishing the tasks at hand.
  • Experience with spreadsheet software analysis, data management and YouTube’s Content Management System.
  • Experience in public speaking and presentation.
  • Understanding of key publishing issues, and trends in rights management, including sync rights, performance licenses (and withdrawals), collection societies and publisher/label relationships.
  • Ability to learn, technological concepts, financial models and product features.
  • Ability to influence and communicate cross-functionally and externally.

About the job

As a Manager for Music Publishing Partnerships, you will build and maintain strategic relationships with our music publishing partners for YouTube, including, managing existing publisher partnerships, launching new relationships, driving new business opportunities, resolving business issues, and analyzing and tracking key metrics to identify trends. You will manage complex relationships and work cross-functionally with colleagues across multiple disciplines to ensure our music partners are positioned for success. You will manage day-to-day operations and publisher relationships, fielding and prioritizing incoming requests, troubleshooting partner systems around reporting, music rights management, Content ID and creating periodic reports (external and internal) on partner performance. You will possess strong relationship-building skills, proven experience in negotiating strategic partnerships, the ability to clarify and summarize complex issues, and strong attention to detail. You will also possess excellent investigative skills regarding contractual, technical and financial issues, and the ability to effectively influence and communicate cross-functionally with YouTube leadership.

You will have day to day interaction with music publishing partners to ensure they remain licensed, engaged, and supported on the platform. Additionally, you will work closely with our business development licensing and field partner engineer counterparts to strategize and support the licensing process, ultimately ensuring the licensed terms are operationalized. You will be the face of the team to our most critical partners and are the first line of support when launching new products or features. As such, the key to success is an understanding of how music works on YouTube, a general knowledge of music publishing rights management, and the ability to communicate effectively.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $106,000-$153,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional teams across Product, Engineering, Sales, Operations, Finance, and Legal to implement content licenses and provide the YouTube community with an excellent user experience.
  • Handle day-to-day operations and platform management with music publishing partners, field and prioritize incoming requests, troubleshoot partner issues around reporting, content management, and Content ID, and create periodic reports (external and internal) on performance.
  • Develop a deep knowledge of Google and YouTube technology, particularly surrounding rights management and reporting.
  • Translate technical systems for our partners and keep Google and YouTube colleagues up to speed on the complex and evolving music publishing business landscape.
  • Ability to travel as required.
