Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience in software engineering, systems architecture, or technical consulting.
- 10 years of experience troubleshooting technical issues for internal/external partners or customers.
- Experience leading technical teams or driving technical programs in a 0-to-1 incubation environment.
- Experience in designing distributed systems, data platforms, and AI/ML architectures.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience interacting with C-level executives (CTO, CDO, CIO) to translate complex business requirements into technical strategies.
- Experience influencing engineering roadmaps and driving product improvements within a large technology organization.

The Data and AI Strategic Pursuits (Forward Deployed Engineering) Team is a specialized product incubation engine dedicated to accelerating Product Market Fit for our unified Data Cloud and AI capabilities. Tasked with bridging the gap between our powerful platform primitives and the cohesive, high-value solutions enterprises demand, this group operates as a customer-zero laboratory. Composed of builders and strategic product leaders, the team focuses on solving the complex integration and challenges that define the next generation of enterprise data architectures, directly de-risking the roadmap for the broader organization.
Operating on a high-impact flywheel, the team embeds with a select group of lighthouse customers to co-develop breakthrough solutions in environments. Rather than stopping at individual customer success, the team’s primary mandate is to translate these engagements into scalable assets, delivering validated product prototypes to engineering and repeatable go-to-market blueprints to the field.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $227,000-$320,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Serve as the Principal Architect for the Forward Deployed Engineer Team’s portfolio. You will set the engineering standards, selection of primitives and architectural patterns used across all Lighthouse engagements.
- Act as the primary technical counterpart to Customer CTOs and CDOs.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team of Forward Deployed Engineers. Guide the squad in delivering robust, scalable, and secure solutions.
- Own the transition of bespoke customer solutions into industry-wide standards. Identify and resolve complex, cross-product integration challenges.
- Drive systemic improvements in Google Cloud’s product portfolio. Influence the roadmaps of Directors and VPs in BigQuery, Vertex AI, and Database engineering.
