Software Engineer, Android Multitasking

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
- 2 years of experience with Android application development.
- 2 years of experience with Java and Kotlin.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in Android System UI or Framework development (e.g., Windowing, Services, System Apps).
- Experience working on medium to large scale Android apps involving multiple developers and designers.
- Experience in performance optimization (e.g., multi-threading/multi-process, logging/metrics, state machines, graphics).
- Understanding of Android app design and life-cycle.

The broader Android Interactions Frameworks team owns the infrastructure that powers innovation across the entire Android ecosystem and how manufacturers build devices from modern smartphone innovations, emerging platforms (TV, Automotive, Wear, ...), to Large Screen and Foldable devices.
As part of Interactions Frameworks, the AdaptiveWindowing team develops some of the primary and most visible multitasking capabilities and features on Android, covering Split-Screen, Picture-in-picture, Desktop Windowing, Bubbles and many others across various product types.
Responsibilities
- Drive design, implement and deliver critical user-visible features on Android for devices like Foldables, Tablets, and more.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, UX, application teams and external partners to build and improve system-level windowing framework functionality.
- Design and implement new tools and APIs for developers in AndroidX (WindowManager Jetpack) and other API surfaces to allow creating powerful and polished applications for Large Screen and Foldable devices.
- Work with hardware product teams to ship the next generation of Google and Android devices.
