Washed out!

Showers in Melbourne claims its second game of the day as this fixture has been abandoned without a ball being bowled too. With points being split between Australia and England, New Zealand find themselves in a strong position yet again. Three games down and only one win to their credit, it's only the Net Run Rate that is separating England, Ireland and Australia, who are now placed second, third and fourth on the points table.

England have to face New Zealand and Sri Lanka now while Australia's competition will be against Ireland and Afghanistan. Ireland have the toughest fixtures going ahead - New Zealand and Australia, but given the kind of surprises that have sprung up so far in the tournament, another twist cannot be ruled out.

And it has started to rain again! Well...

The umpires had another inspection, with Aleem Dar still unsure about many of the damp spots around the ground. Still no rain, but we'll have to wait to see if the ground gets ready on time.Next inspection at 20:50 Local Time

More updates from Ganesh. "There appears to be a lot of damp spots inside the circle. Australian players have been checking out an area in the bowlers' run up, and so have the umpires. They've had a long chat with both Finch and Buttler. Next inspection at 08:15 PM Local Time," he says.

Ganesh, our reporter at the venue, has some good news. he says, "Cheers around the ground as the covers are being peeled off. Rain has stopped for now."

While we wait for the toss, here's something you can read about Marcus Stonis, the Australian all-rounder who not only powered his side to a win against Sri Lanka in the previous game but also helped them improve on their Net Run Rate significantly: Onward and upward with the 'feel' factor of Marcus Stoinis

Matthew Wade had tested positive for COVID-19. With no backup wicketkeeping option at Australia's disposal, it remains to be seen if he's fit enough to play in the contest or will either of Glenn Maxwell, David Warner and Aaron Finch keep wickets.

Hello and welcome to Match 26 of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup, set to be played between Australia and England - two teams who were pre-tournament favourites but find themselves in a tricky situation following some unexpected results and some expected rain interruptions. With New Zealand having made a solid start to the competition and Ireland upsetting their European neighbours, both teams find themselves in an almost must-win situation today, when they play at the MCG. England come into the match having lost their previous game but also at the back of some positive results in the recently-concluded bilateral T20I series against Australia.
