Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has spoken highly of Erik Lamela to Football.London.

Lamela, who can operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, has been playing brilliantly for Tottenham so far this season.

The Argentina international has scored four goals and provided one assist in seven Premier League appearances for Spurs so far this season, according to WhoScored.

In three Champions League appearances for the North London outfit so far this campaign, the 26-year-old has scored one goal and provided two assists, according to WhoScored.

Tottenham manager Pochettino has praised Lamela, and believes that the Premier League club’s investment in him is now starting to pay dividends.

Spurs signed Lamela from AS Roma in the summer of 2013 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £25.8 million.

Pochettino told The Guardian about Lamela: “Yes he’s more mature now. Of course always you expect when you make this type of investment that the player starts to perform in the way you expect.

“Of course it was tough for him from the day he arrived here. This is his sixth season and it was tough for him from the beginning, but now I think after 12 games he’s scored eight goals.

“I think everything now is going very well. We hope it continues and he can be consistent during the whole season and we can talk at the end about Lamela having a fantastic season, because it’s still difficult to judge him because he wasn’t consistent like we expect.”
