Luka Modric is going nowhere. Despite rumours linking him with a remarkable summer switch to Inter, MARCA have been assured by Real Madrid and the player's own camp that the Croatian World Cup star will be staying put with the European Champions.
The circumstances are completely different from those experienced with Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese did ask through his agent in January to leave the club and his wishes were granted after the World Cup but the only thing being discussed with Modric is his commitment to the club.
There is no doubt in Madrid that Modric will remain and having only renewed his contract in November 2016 his current agreement runs until June 30, 2020.
Modric's status has shifted and largely thanks to his exploits in Russia this summer, as well as what he did in white last season, so that he is considered one of the very best in the world and as such was named the best player at the World Cup.
If Inter's interest is genuine, those at the Santiago Bernabeu are not willing to listen to any offers that arrive for him, so much so that Florentino Perez sees any exit as impossible.
"The only possibility that Modric leaves is by paying 750 million euros," says Perez of a potential exit.
Modric himself is happy at Real Madrid and enjoys his relationship with the club's supporters, the club itself and his teammates. Next week he will return to training in Madrid ahead of the UEFA Super Cup and he will do so with no intentions of asking for anything.
