Bindu R D, a resident of H Rampura village in Davanagere district, had written an email to Bommai on September 9, demanding the construction of roads and a bus service to her village and a bus service to the village. The 26-year-old, who is the only post graduate in her village, said she cannot get married and leave her native place till roads are built, otherwise there would be no one left to fight for her village.

In her email, Bindu, said she was forced to live in a hostel during her youth to pursue her education because there were no roads and buses for her to travel.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Bindu said, “There is a school for children up to Class 5 in my village, but if someone wants to study further, they will have to walk 14 km a day. Many women dropped out of school because of this.

“Though I have picked the issue now, my elders told me that this demand has been on since India became independent… I may get married one day and may relocate to another town or city but the plight of my villagers would not have changed. This issue has haunted me and this is why I shot an email to the CM marking my protest,” she said.
