A suspect is still at large after a TriMet bus driver was shot around 7 p.m. Saturday near Northeast 102nd and Halsey in Portland.
According to Portland Police, the driver, who was driving a bus of 25 people, was taken to the hospital. No one else on the bus was injured.
Portland Police say the bullet went through the bus windshield, hitting the driver in the shoulder. Either glass or shrapnel got into his eye, police say.
It's unclear what led up to the shooting. Police say it's possible the bullet traveled several blocks before hitting the bus. They don't believe the driver of the bus was in the intended target.
A witness to the shooting says they heard three shots. Police were not able to confirm that information.
The intersection was closed for more than two hours while police investigated. Police were not able to provide a suspect description.
TriMet released a statement to KATU News, which read in part:
We are shocked and saddened to have one of our coworkers hurt while serving our community. Our thoughts are with our operator, and we pray he will make a full recovery.
In a Sunday morning update, TriMet said they were happy to report that the driver expects to make a full recovery.
