WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Court documents filed in Walla Walla Superior Court on Tuesday give graphic details on the horrific homicide investigation regarding Kyle Martz.

According to court documents, Walla Walla police began their investigation after Kyle's roommate called about suspicious circumstances at their home at 331 South 4th Avenue.

Kyle's home was 'in disarray' with blood found all over the residence and a strong smell of bleach.

Police say they also discovered a shovel, hammer and axe with apparent blood on them. The tools were found in the yard near the garage.

When police examined the garage, they found a cooler with what appeared to be dismembered human remains. At that point, officers exited the home and secured the scene.

During the investigation, police spoke with neighbors who say they saw an unknown man at the home. Neighbors told police they saw the man leave the home with Kyle's truck.

Officers pinged Kyle's phone and determined that it was in North Powder, Oregon.

Oregon authorities located Kyle's truck and detained Colby James Hedman, 23.

According to court docuents, WWPD detectives spoke with Hedman who confessed to killing Kyle by hitting him multiple times with an axe.

On Wednesday, the prosecuting attorney charged Hedman with First Degree Murder and Theft of a Motor Vehicle.
