Highlights from the Jets practice on Friday:
Something good
Sam Darnold did a great job recognizing a blitz from defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and getting the ball to wide receiver Robby Anderson on a crossing route. Anderson beat Trumaine Johnson on the play and raced 50 yards to the end zone.
Something bad
Third-round pick Jachai Polite has shown nothing so far in training camp. Polite is working with the third-team defense and has not made any plays of note. It is early, so there is no reason to panic, but he is going to have to show the coaches more to have a role this year.
Caught my eye
Trevon Wesco, the team’s fourth-round pick from West Virginia, is carving out a nice niche for himself as a fullback in short-yardage situations. Wesco, a tight end, threw some nice blocks during a goal-line period Friday.
Medical report
LT Kelvin Beachum (ankle) and RB Ty Montgomery (ankle) both left practice early. Coach Adam Gase did not seem overly concerned, but it will be something to monitor. CB Trumaine Johnson had a sore groin, but tried to practice through it. He ended up watching the final portion of practice from the sideline after the groin acted up.
