Anaheim Ducks to be Mighty Again. “Mouse Company” Set to Buy Back Team

It looks as if the Anaheim Ducks are going to revert back to their previous owners. In what is turning out to be a perfect storm, the “Mouse Company” (according to FanSided’s legal department we can’t formally name the company, but Ducks fans know) will buy back the team from current owner Henry Samueli.

First, according to various media stories, The Mighty Ducks is coming back as a live action television series. The entertainment executives once again believe the real Anaheim Ducks would serve as a great platform to reintroduce the fictional team.

The second part of the storm has to do with Broadcom’s failed bid to acquire Qualcomm. For those who don’t know Anaheim Ducks owner Henry Samueli is a co-founder of Broadcom. Apparently, the failed takeover put a serious dent in his bank account. As a result, the “Mouse Company” can come in with a fresh infusion of cash.

Fallout

There is going to be plenty of fallout from this one. From players who don’t want to come to Anaheim because of the “cartoon” management to fans who fear the team will go downhill due to absentee ownership. We reached out two a few of our regular readers about the situation. The replies weren’t very nice. One reader gave a somewhat sanitized answer, “Nobody is going to happy with this Goofy ownership again,” they wrote.

Ironically, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman may be the savior here. He can stop the takeover now by letting the parties involved know that the Board of Governors will never approve the transaction. All he needs to tell them there is no way the National Hockey League will allow the “Mouse” to take a big bite out of the Duck. It would be a FOOL’S errand.
