A 13-year-old boy has been arrested after attempting to stab an e-hailing driver with a 25cm-long knife in Sungai Petani, Kedah

According to Sinar Harian, the incident took place at around 5.43pm yesterday, 27 November, when an elderly e-hailing driver received an order to pick up the suspect from Taman Keladi to Bandar Sri Astana.

The incident was captured in a one-minute-and-33-second dashcam video.

In the video, the e-hailing driver can be heard saying that he has been "circling around (town) for an hour", reminding the boy that he is "not his father".

"You, this boy, main main (fooling around with me)? Don't be mischievous," says the driver as he takes direction from the boy.

The elderly man immediately grabs the boy's hand and bites it, before the suspect runs away after his failed attempt.

Many netizens were horrified that a boy would commit a heinous crime at such a young age.

Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Zaidy Che Hassan said the suspect was arrested around 10pm on Monday, two hours after the e-hailing driver filed a police report

Zaidy said the suspect asked to borrow RM50 to pay his house rent during the e-hailing ride.

"(The driver) said if (the boy) didn't have money, he had to drop him off at that location. However, the passenger refused and asked the driver to send him home to Bandar Sri Astana to get money to pay for the (e-hailing) service.

"When they arrived in Bandar Sri Astana, (the boy) asked to take him back to Taman Keladi, causing the elderly to first ask for a payment of RM18. (They) continued their journey before the boy tried to stall, asking the e-hailing driver to go through some small lanes," said the district police chief.

Due to the extra distance travelled, the elderly man asked for an additional payment of RM9.

"The passenger gave him RM20, but when the driver wanted to return the change, he took out a knife and stabbed at the elderly man's left chest, before attempting to grab the money from his pocket.

"The elderly man quickly managed to grab the knife and bite the boy's hand to defend himself, causing the suspect to flee," Zaidy said.

The elderly e-hailing driver was unharmed from the incident.

The boy was arrested two hours after the police report was made.

The police explained that the suspect behaved in such a manner because he was angry at the e-hailing driver for scolding him and collecting the fare payment

The police seized the 25cm-long knife used by the boy.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 393 of the Penal Code for attempted robbery, reported Sinar Harian.
