Mauricio Pochettino said to Mike Dean ‘You know what you are’ in heated confrontation after Tottenham defeat at Burnley

Pochettino was handed a two-match touchline ban for his actions as he and his assistant Jesus Perez berated the referee at full-time in February

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino repeatedly said ‘you know what you are’ to referee Mike Dean after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Burnley last month.

Pochettino and his assistant Jesus Perez walked on to the pitch to berate Dean at full-time after he had incorrectly given Burnley a corner, which Chris Wood scored from to break the deadlock.

Harry Kane equalised before Ashley Barnes’ 83rd-minute winner started a run of three successive Premier League defeats for Spurs.

Pochettino was slapped with a two-match touchline ban and fined £10,000 by the Football Association, who published their reasoning behind the punishment on Tuesday.

Dean’s report said: "At the conclusion of the game I was approached on the field of play by the Tottenham Hotspur head coach Mauricio Pochettino and some members of his coaching staff including First team coach Jesus Perez.

“Mr Pochettino acted in a very irresponsible and aggresive (sic) manner. He wouldn't stop saying 'you know what you are, you know what you are'.

“I asked him to explain and he repeated 'you know what you are'.

“I then said on numerous occasions to go away, at least 10 times, and he wouldn't get out of my personnel (sic) space and then aggresively (sic) pointed his finger just a few inches from my face again saying 'you know what you are'.

“Mr Pochettino then left me alone and left the field of play.

“When I reached the tunnel he was waiting at the top of the stairs again saying 'you know what you are' and had to be escorted to the dressing room by security staff from Burnley.”

Pochettino apologised for his actions, but later said he was “in shock” and felt the touchline ban was “unfair”.

Prior to watching Tottenham’s 2-1 defeat at Southampton from the stands, he said: “I am in shock.

"I still think it’s unfair. I can do nothing. But what can I do now? Nothing. We still don't know the reasons because the letter (with the explanation for the ban) still hasn't arrived.

“I know very well that it wasn't the idea to appeal, because in my mind it wasn't a big deal.

“Of course it wasn't the best way to complain or talk with the referee, but I never expected this type of situation, that for me is not fair.

“I need to see the reasons why, and then we'll see what happens.”
