Packers Free Agency 2019: WR Randall Cobb is visiting with Cowboys, per report

After the Green Bay Packers’ big-money investments a week ago, it appears likely that most of the team’s notable free agent players will move on to new teams. One such player is wide receiver Randall Cobb, who had a disappointing 2018 season and largely failed to live up to the big contract he signed prior to the 2015 campaign.

Now, Cobb is finally taking the first free agent visit of his professional career. Cobb is meeting with the Dallas Cowboys, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer. Earlier this season, Dallas lost their primary slot receiver, Cole Beasley, to a free agent contract with the Buffalo Bills. As a result. Cobb makes sense as a fit on the inside to complement Amari Cooper.

In his eight-year career, Cobb played in five games against the Cowboys. The first came in the divisional round of the 2014 playoffs, when the Packers defeated Dallas 26-21 at Lambeau Field. That came was Cobb’s finest against Dallas, as he caught eight of 11 targets for 116 yards. He added seven catches for 62 yards in the 2016 divisional playoffs at AT&T Stadium — the game where Aaron Rodgers famously hit Jared Cook on the sideline to set up a game-winning field goal.

Cobb is in an interesting position this offseason. He is looking for his third professional contract, but he will turn just 29 years old in August. Still, he has not eclipsed 80 receptions or 850 receiving yards since 2014, his only Pro Bowl season. Cobb also missed seven games a year ago and finished the year with just 10.1 yards per reception on 38 catches.

Only two of the Packers’ other unrestricted free agents have signed contracts since the start of free agency on Wednesday. Tight end Marcedes Lewis re-signed with the Packers, while linebacker Jake Ryan agreed to a deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
