Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been talking about Philippe Coutinho and says his team could not afford to bring the Brazilian back to Anfield.

Coutinho sealed a loan switch to Bayern Munich on Monday after a tough spell at Barcelona, and Klopp says it’s a good move for the player and the coub.

“It sounds a bit strange, but we could not afford it [to sign Coutinho], we have already spent the cash that we got for him,” he said.

“We were reluctant to hand him over, but Barcelona forced us with money, so to speak.

”The move makes sense for both sides. He’s a super player and a great boy. He is a world-class footballer who can change games in the right environment.”

Barcelona signed Coutinho from Liverpool for €160 million in January 2018, but the Brazil international has so far been unable to live up to his huge price tag.

He will now spend the rest of the campaign in the Bundesliga, with Bayern having the option to sign him permanently for €120m.
