The online Bandra Film Festival is showcasing the short documentaries Parvaaz by Saurabh Agarwal and Suyash Bajpai and The Streets Are Ours by Michelle Fiordaliso on its YouTube channel since yesterday as part of its women's empowerment theme.
"It’s an honour to showcase such incredible and inspiring stories that celebrate courageous and bold women and the filmmakers who create them,” said festival programmer Andrea Manath. “Giving a platform and exhibiting great talents and content will be our continued goals at the festival which will help highlight experienced voices in the industry.”
Parvaaz documents the vision and inspiring activities of Lucknow-based organization Sanatkada, which trains women with enterprising and artistic skills under its leadership programme and provides platforms to showcase their craft to a distinguished audience in a festive mood. The documentary introduces different aspects of the organization's programme and shares the experiences of numerous members who have had their lives changed in the process.
The Streets Are Ours offers a glimpse of the undaunted spirit of progressive human rights activist and social worker Sabeen Mahmud who launched an open space for dialogue within communities and paved the way for American actress/writer Fawzia Mirza to perform her one-woman show across Pakistan one month before her tragic murder.
