United announced their intention to appoint an interim coach until the end of the season but, as Sportsmail revealed on Monday, Pochettino is interested in taking up the vacancy right away.

Now, The Independent have reported that PSG have kept a dialogue open with Zidane as well as Antonio Conte, now installed at Tottenham, and France boss Didier Deschamps in the event the unsettled Pochettino departed.

Ex-Real Madrid coach Zidane isn't interested in the United job but could take over at the Parc des Princes and so allow Pochettino to move to Manchester.

The report says this arrangement may be moved forward from the end of the season to sooner given the vacancy at Old Trafford.

Pochettino has never really settled in Paris and is still living in a hotel room with his family still living in London following his stint at Tottenham.

It is also believed Pochettino regards certain aspects of managing PSG as almost impossible and wasn't able to deliver the Ligue 1 title or the Champions League after being appointed PSG manager in January last year.

He was even linked with a return to Tottenham back in the summer with his former club ultimately going for Nuno Espirito Santo.

But he was fired on November 1 after a poor run of Premier League results, with Conte appointed on an 18-month contract the following day.

That closed one avenue for PSG but their continued dialogue with Zidane, who delivered three consecutive Champions League wins to Real Madrid, suggests a managerial reshuffle of mutual convenience could be on the cards.

It came after Spanish newspaper Marca reported that PSG's players feel Zidane's arrival as their new manager is 'imminent' with Pochettino departing.
