Man Utd star Jesse Lingard 'agrees Newcastle personal terms' as late deal being finalised

MANCHESTER UNITED star Jesse Lingard is edging closer to a move to Newcastle.

Ralf Rangnick discusses future of Jesse Lingard ahead of West Ham fixture

Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has reportedly agreed personal terms with Newcastle ahead of a move to St James' Park. The England international has barely played under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick this term. Now, a move away from Old Trafford is being worked on.

Lingard returned to United back in the summer believing he'd get plenty of minutes at Old Trafford following a successful loan spell at West Ham.

Yet it's been a problematic campaign for the England international, who has barely been played under both Solskjaer and Rangnick this term.

Newcastle have been pushing to sign Lingard over the course of the month with Eddie Howe's side looking to boost their chances of staying in the Premier League and avoiding relegation.

Now, 90min claim the Toon have agreed personal terms with the 28-year-old ahead of a move to St James' Park.

And they're currently finalising a deal that will take Lingard to Tyneside before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm on Monday night.

Lingard will apparently join Newcastle on loan until the end of the campaign, when he’ll become a free agent.

The deal originally fell through earlier in the ninth but, now, the lines of communication have ‘remained open’.

For Newcastle, any potential deal for Lingard will be a major coup.

If they can get him back to his West Ham best they’ll be onto a winner, with the England star scoring nine times during his time at the London Stadium last year.

West Ham had also been in the race to sign Lingard but United made it clear they wouldn’t sell to a club so close to them in the Premier League table.

Speaking earlier in January, Rangnick admitted Lingard would have to make a decision on his future imminently.

“With regard to Jesse, it's the same as with quite a few other players,” he said.

“He’s a really good player, I see that in every training session. For me it's normal that other clubs like, for example, Newcastle show interest in him.

“I'm not the one who is dealing with that. I know there might be some interest from other clubs but if you ask me now what will happen in the next 10 days until the closure of the window, I can't answer that question I’m afraid.

“As I said, it’s also a question of what does the player want, what options does he really have? Does he see a chance to get more game time?

“Those are all questions that I cannot answer for him or for other players.

“This is something that has to be done by the players and their agents themselves.

“What I can say is he’s a very good player, a technical player and of course he can play for many Premier League clubs on a regular basis.

“Here at Manchester United it is not so easy as we have other players who can also play in that position and we can't change from one game to the other five or six positions.

“As I said, for him, I know his contract is expiring in the summer but the question is what does he want to do? Does he want to get more gametime from now on?

“Therefore, it’s quite legitimate to speak about other options, but I wouldn't be unhappy if he stayed until the rest of season.

“I know he is a player who can always play, even if we need to play him from the start. I know what kind of level I will get from him. That’s how I would describe the situation.”
