CPI(M), BJP walk hand-in-hand in support of Adani port project in Kerala

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the ruling Communist Party in Kerala joined the march led by the Save Vizhinjam Port action council in support of Adani Group’s Vizhinjam international seaport project on Tuesday.
BJP’s district president, VV Rajesh, and CPI (M)’s district secretary Anavoor Nagappan joined the march led by the action council towards the secretariat.
The Save Vizhinjam Port action council is a group that comprises residents of Vizhinjam and nearby areas who are in support of Adani’s seaport project.

The BJP supported the project, saying it would significantly boost the state’s development. On the other hand, CPI (M) urged the protesters to stop the agitation. CPI(M) also termed the protest an attempt to unleash a riot in the state.
The state had witnessed a major protest by the fisherfolk led by the Latin Catholic archdiocese against the Vizhinjam project. Last week, the demonstration marked 100 days of protest, as protesters blocked roads and burnt boats.
The Adani Group’s Vizhinjam international seaport project construction work has been affected majorly after the fisherfolk launched protests in the state.
The Kerala High Court had also directed that the protest should not affect construction work.
