Driver's massive trail of destruction after swerving to avoid squirrel

A woman crashed and flipped over her car in a freak accident to avoid hitting a squirrel on the road.

The 82-year-old was driving along Washington Street towards Cass Avenue in Traverse, Michigan, when she spotted a squirrel scurrying across the road.

The woman, who was driving a 2009 Ford Fusion, darted and hit the rear of a parked Honda CR-V, causing her car to flip upside down.

A passerby witnessed the crash and helped the elderly lady out of the vehicle.

Emergency services arrived at the scene to examine her.

She escaped the crash with minor injuries.

Officers issued her a ticket for driving without due care and caution, Traverse City Police Chief Jeffrey O’Brien said.

Earlier in April this year, an elderly woman crashed her car because she was scared of a spider.
