Ranchi: Shocking visuals have come to the fore showing how a mob, that was protesting against the lynching of 22-year-old Tabrez Ansari, unleashed violence in Jharkhand's Ranchi on Friday.

Ansari was beaten up by a mob in Dhatkidih village in Jharkhand’s Seraikela district on June 17 on suspicion of bike theft and was forced to chant 'Jai Sri Ram'. The victim succumbed to his injuries on June 22.

The incident had come to light after a video went viral in which a crowd was seen thrashing Ansari, who was tied to a tree. The Jharkhand Police has arrested 11 people in the case.

To register their protest against the incident, around 500 people gathered at the Urs ground in Ranchi on July 5, reportedly without the prior permission of the district authorities.

However, the rally against the mob lynching soon turned violent with the demonstrators creating a ruckus and blocking some roads. Some protesters reportedly injured youth with a knife, thrashed some people and smashed window panes of vehicles in Ranchi.

They also attacked a bus carrying college students and broke its windows. The bus was passing by from the area when it became the target of the angry mob.

As per reports, some of the elders in the rally pacified the youth who had resorted to violence during the rally.

The Jharkhand High Court had on Monday asked the state government to submit a report on the mob lynching of 22-year-old Tabrez Ansari and the violence that took place in Ranchi on June 5.

Earlier this month, violence had erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra and Meerut during ‘unauthorised’ protest marches taken out against Ansari’s lynching.

The issue was mentioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament. On June 26, the PM said the lynching case in Jharkhand had pained him.

"The lynching has pained me. It has saddened others too. But some people in the Rajya Sabha are calling Jharkhand a hub of lynching. Is this fair? Why are they insulting a state?" said the PM.

The incident was condemned by Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who had called it as a "blot on humanity".

"The brutal lynching of this young man by a mob in Jharkhand is a blot on humanity. The cruelty of the police who held this dying boy in custody for four days is shocking as is the silence of powerful voices in the BJP-ruled Central and state government," he had tweeted.
