MSNBC calls Florida governor race for Gillum – a day early

.

MSNBC mistakenly aired a graphic of Florida’s governor race on Monday night that showed 99 percent of the vote in, and Democratic candidate Andrew Gillum with a slight lead.

The graphic showed Gillum with 49.4 percent of the vote, just ahead of Rep. Ron DeSantis, who had 48.8 percent.

“Quick clarification here,” MSNBC host Chris Hayes told viewers later in the program. “Just want to say, earlier this hour we showed a graphic of the Florida gubernatorial race. May have caught your eye because our system had inadvertently populated some test numbers. Obviously, we do not yet have any vote totals here, the night before the election. That was a misfire. Don’t worry. I was pretty confused when I saw it up there, to see it myself.”

The graphic appeared while MSNBC host Joy Reid reported from Tallahassee about the enthusiasm she was seeing for Gillum, who is mayor of Tallahassee.
