Festival: Napoleon III festivities in Vichy

Vichy, the historically fascinating and architecturally rich town in the Auvergne region in the center of France, owes its stature as a major spa town to the attention that Emperor Napoleon III showered on it when he repeatedly came to take the waters in the 1860s.

Each year--this year from April 27 to 29--Vichy honors the emperor and his times with a weekend of Fêtes Napoléon III complete with costumed events, parading carriages, assorted exhibits and lectures, Offenbach at the stunning opera house, an absinthe tasting, a mock military battle, and architectural tours.
