Deadline to make Attorney Listing for Self-Represented Litigants

In order to increase access to civil justice, the 5th circuit wants to compile a listing of attorneys' names and contact information which would be made available to self-represented litigants (SRL).

The listing would be available for distribution to SRL in courtrooms, at the customer service windows and in the Self Help Center (when it is reopened). Attorneys would sign up for inclusion on the listing. Realistically, a SRL will likely seek an initial free legal consultation when calling the attorney on the listing; the initial consulation may or may not ultimately result in retention of the attorney. The listing would be provided to SRLs who appear in district court civil cases as well as in family court matters.

Any attorney who agrees to place his/her name on such a listing should assume that (although the judge will not tell the litigant that the attorney WILL provide a free initial consultation) the SRL will probably expect to speak with the attorney at no cost at the initial appointment. Attorneys' names and contact information would be listed under various areas of practice:

LANDLORD/TENANT, SUMMARY POSSESSION/EJECTMENT
DISTRICT COURT TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDERS
COLLECTIONS
BREACH OF CONTRACT
DIVORCE/CUSTODY/VISITATION
FAMILY COURT PROTECTIVE ORDERS

Any attorney who is interested in having his/her name listed should email Helene.G.Yamamotoya@courts.state.hi.us and provide the following information:

Attorney's name and business address (including telephone, email, etc.)

Which areas of practice (from the list above) does he/she wish to be listed under?
An attorney may choose to be listed in more than one area of practice.

DEADLINE TO SIGN UP IS THURSDAY, APRIL 21.
