Researcher Workshop: A Taste of Informatics

Join us for a taste of informatics provided by the Office of Biomedical Health Informatics (BMHI). BMHI hosts the Informatics Consulting Service (ICS) of the CTSI. To help spark some ideas on how the field of informatics can support your research, Dr. Zohara Cohen, Informatics Research Manager at BMHI, and Dr. Genevieve Melton-Meaux, Faculty Fellow in the Institute for Health Informatics, will present an introduction to medical ontologies.

Dr. Cohen will present an overview of ontologies and the ways they can benefit biomedical research. In the context of that overview she will illustrate some principles of ontologies with reference to Gene Ontology and the Foundational Model of Anatomy. Following Dr. Cohen’s general overview, Dr. Melton-Meaux will delve into some specific clinical ontologies and discuss their relevance to clinical practice and research.
