Described by founder Mark Allen as a “social organism,” Machine Project is a loose confederacy of some 40 artists that develops projects stretching the boundaries of what one might define as art experiences. Realized in a Los Angeles storefront gallery and various contexts throughout the United States, Machine Project’s explorations look obsessively at other people’s obsessions: knitting, gardening, experimental music, poetry, etc. Driven by an unquenchable thirst to learn, Machine Project hosts events that invite participants to view the world from different perspectives—analytic, poetic, scientific, or discursive.
For SAC, Machine Project may or may not present poetry readings to native plants in Salina, sing opera to residents in a local retirement home, or transform innocent visitors into trananimals as they join an all-night soiree. Stay tuned to find out how Machine will function here!
