Lecture: Critical Caretaking-- Rethinking Religion, Nationalism, and Justice in the Case of Palestine/Israel

We invite you on behalf of the Islamicate Graduate Students Association to a talk by Dr. Atalia Omer (University of Notre Dame.) The talk will focus on a methodological question concerning the study of religion as it relates to actual conflicts and concerns with peace and justice. The question is this: where does—or where must—a scholar stand in order to develop a rigorous and free critical social vision? The talk will engage Omer’s recent book When Peace Is Not Enough: How the Israeli Peace Camp Thinks about Religion, Nationalism, and Justice (University of Chicago Press, 2013).

Thu Nov 7, 2013 8:30pm – 9:30pm GMT (no daylight saving)
