In a discussion of traditional photojournalism vs. the new world of digital photography where everyone is a photographer and potentially a photojournalist, University of Alaska Anchorage Atwood Chair of Journalism Richard Murphy presents "Professional Photojournalism to Personal Photojournalism: or How My Cell Phone Set Me Free." The democratization of photography has changed the terrain of both photography and journalism. Murphy also plans to explore the importance of "personal photojournalism," the photo documentation we all do of our lives.
Murphy is the former photo editor of the Anchorage Daily News, who led the paper's photo staff for more than two decades. The lecture begins at 6:30 p.m., but come early to mingle at the reception, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
