The Barbershop Harmony Society celebrates seventy-five years of a capella harmony and brotherhood in 2013. The Colby Chapter of the Society joins in the celebration on Saturday March 23 at the Cultural Arts center on the campus of Colby Community College. The Tumbleweed Chorus will present “Barbershop Harmony Diamond Jubilee” at 3:30 and 7:30 p.m. featuring the 2012 Senior Champion quartet Rusty Pipes. The quartet won the seniors quartet gold medal in Tucson during the 2012 midwinter convention. Members of the quartet have won eight gold medals and together boast 129 years as members of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Joining Rusty Pipes as guests on the Colby stage will be the Prairie Statesmen from McCook, Nebraska. The Tumbleweed Chorus and the Statesmen will combine to sing some of the great songs that have been the mainstay of barbershop harmony for 75 years. The two choruses will also be singing a modern composition written specifically for the occasion as well as a tribute to our armed forces. Uncalled Four, a quartet with members from the Colby and Hays chapters, will add their voices to the 75th anniversary celebration. The quartet will be joining the combined choruses as well as appearing on their own.
The Tumbleweed Chorus invites you to join in the harmonious celebration. Tickets are $10 when bought in advance, or $12 at the door.
